Why now, why this
The room didn't
exist yet.
Essex has software, data, product and engineering teams scattered across start-ups, consultancies, utilities and highways authorities, but no shared room for the women working inside them. Essex Women in Tech is that room: a regular, informal meetup for anyone working in or heading into a technical role, wherever they are in the county and whatever stage they're at.
Who it's for
Career shifters
Mums back after leave, women returning after a break, anyone moving sideways into a digital role from somewhere else entirely. Entry-level does not just mean young.
Already in the room
Women with years in the industry who are done being the only one, and want somewhere to mentor, speak, or just stop explaining themselves for one evening.
How it started
Eilish Tinsley spent eight-plus years in GIS and spatial data, from Essex Highways to Crossrail, Tideway, Savills, Invesco, and now her own consultancy. One pattern followed her through all of it: usually the only woman in the technical meeting.
Essex Women in Tech exists so that stops being normal. Not a campaign, not a diversity initiative with a logo. A room, a regular date, and enough honesty to say what is actually hard about this industry.
